i spent my day stocking up on organic and healthy ingredients for our 3-day cleanse (that starts on monday!!) the total at the register was pretty startling because i simply made a list and went to the store. i bought organic ingredients and didn't use a single coupon. sure, some of my things wound up being on sale, but not many.
it's not like we eat crap at home. i quit buying processed foods like hamburger helper and canned vegetables a long time ago. i strive to buy healthy products for our family - to stock gluten free healthy cereals instead of sugary crap. and to teach my kids about meat and veggies over starchy fillers.
but i'm human!! i have a pretty wicked carb addiction so it's tough for me to turn down a good potato chip. and there's a pretty routine monthly craving for all things deep fried and smothered in chocolate.
the point is, as cliche as it sounds, i'm beginning a journey towards a new lifestyle. one where i'm not a slave to these cravings. where i don't look each day to set aside all laws of reason and eat my feelings or drink my emotions.
i'm already three pounds down already as a result of simply making healthier choices for a week. i think spending a few extra bucks every week to keep that going and maintaining it is rather priceless.
here's the video that Katherine sent me:

xoxo,

Super proud of you!!! Frankly, I feel better on better foods. I have felt the effects of food - fatigue, brain fog, memory loss - none of those are worth it. Congrats on being 3 more pounds down - AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have agreed more, it is important to eat healthy. The only way to live a healthier life is to exercise and eat right. There is no short cuts. I absolutely HATE it when people try to say it costs too much to eat healthy. You brought up a good point that I have also argued with people in the past regarding the costs of health care in the long run. People tend to think in the moment. They don't think of the "long run" results..all the processed, sugary foods..will lead to health problems that will be costly. Simple as that. There are so many alternatives. People just need to research. Cost of food is up, but one can go to Farmer's markets, or even grown a garden. I try to be a smart shopper at the grocery stores. I always heard to stick to the outside section instead of shopping in the inside isles when shopping at grocery stores..if you think about it, all the healthy stuff is outside. Produce, meats, dairy, frozen foods, etc. The inside isles mainly contain processed foods. I try to eat organic as much as I can, sure you do pay a little more, to me, it's worth it for peace of mind to know that me and my family will be living a healthy lifestyle. Also, simple switches to healthier foods will help. Instead of buying the regular butter, buy the heart healthy, instead of using vegetable oil/canola oil, use Olive oil, wheat bread over white bread, brown rice over white rice..it's a way of life. Your taste buds may be in shock at first, but it will get used to healthy tastes soon enough. Just had to give my little two cents in. Thank you! I love your blog! :)
